The Amazon

Back in 2020 SUE Foundation Colombia embarked on a several-day journey along the Amazon River in search of a suitable location to initiate their first project. During their expedition, they came across the community of Palmeras and observed that the residents were facing different challenges. Notably, there was a lack of a proper school facility and essential school materials for the children. Additionally, the community struggled with access to clean drinking water. In response to these needs, the SUE Foundation swiftly set an ambitious goal: within a year's time, they pledged to construct and renovate a school for the community, equipping it with abundant school supplies. Simultaneously, they committed to devising a sustainable clean water solution to address the pressing issue of drinking water scarcity.

Palmeras/Colombia

Palmeras, on the other hand, represents an indigenous settlement that forms an integral part of the expansive Ticuna community situated in the Colombian Amazon.

The Tikuna people reside in the southern region of the Amazon, spanning from the Atacuari River's mouth, situated between Colombia and Peru, all the way to the Jutaí River in Brazil.

Project Summary

  1. The school classrooms have been thoughtfully furnished with a comprehensive package of goods and materials, ensuring a conducive learning environment for the students for an entire year.

  2. Thanks to the generous support from our sponsor, Laboratorios Bremymg, the community has been provided with an abundant supply of food and essential vitamin supplements for a year, significantly improving their well-being.

  3. Each and every child in the community has received a backpack, graciously donated by our sponsor, Totto, further supporting their educational journey and personal development.

  4. SUE effectively addressed the pressing issue of inadequate access to potable water within the community by generously providing water purifiers to all 20 families, thereby ensuring a sustainable solution to the drinking water problem.

Please find attached some images from our latest visit and the work we carried out in the Tikuna community of Palmeras. As evident in the pictures, there is much work to be done to ensure that certain facilities such as school classrooms, bathrooms, and the chapel are in optimal condition and fully functional.

Before

“After”

After a year of work and thanks to our volunteers and sponsors, we have successfully achieved our objective. The children of the indigenous community in Palmeras/Tikuna, Colombian Amazon, now have facilities in optimal condition to continue their educational activities.

SUE effectively addressed the pressing issue of inadequate access to potable water within the community by generously providing water purifiers to all 20 families, thereby ensuring a sustainable solution to the drinking water problem.

Totto

After diligently working on the school facilities, SUE wasted no time and swiftly proceeded to distribute the backpacks generously sponsored by our main partner, "Totto" Colombia. Each student attending the local school of Palicelu received a backpack, courtesy of Totto. This remarkable achievement marks our first successful collaboration between our organization and Totto, and it has left us enthused for the many promising projects we have planned for the future.❤️

Ramo

Simultaneously, we were fortunate to receive support from Ramo, who generously provided a substantial care package of food and essential goods to the community. This gesture of kindness and compassion made a significant impact, ensuring that the residents of the community had access to much-needed provisions. The collaboration with Ramo further reinforced our commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of the people we serve.

During our journey, we resided in the quaint town of Puerto Nariño, situated just 40 minutes away by boat from the Palmeras community. This town holds the distinction of being the second municipality in the Amazonas department of Colombia, nestled along the serene shores of the Amazon River. With approximately 6,000 residents, the majority of whom are indigenous, Puerto Nariño boasts a unique characteristic—it is entirely pedestrian, forbidding the presence of cars or motorcycles. This bold approach serves as an ecological experiment within the community.

While we embraced our time there, we had the opportunity to capture some images that offer glimpses of this town. These snapshots provide a window into the beauty and charm we encountered during our stay in Puerto Nariño.

Supply, Reconstruction, and Humanitarian Aid.

In this case, we are offering labor assistance for construction and painting tasks, be it for schools, houses, health centers, or playgrounds. Our expertise covers any infrastructure projects planned to be executed within a 6-day timeframe.
